It's Harris's Time

I am pleased that President Joe Biden did the courageous and democratic act of stepping down from the re-election race, and even more pleased that he has chosen to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's potential nominee.

As evidenced by the record-breaking $81 million in donations to Harris’s campaign within 24 hours, the Democratic Party seems to be in a strong place to support Harris in her fight against former President Donald Trump.

Harris needs to take advantage of her momentum to gather enough support from wide-ranging political figures. Garnering this support will help her acquire the backing of centrist voters in key swing states and Republicans who are dissatisfied with Trump if she hopes to beat him.

Biden stepping down gives the Democratic Party a chance to fully embrace the growing desire for younger, more energetic candidates and shift their position with respect to the Republican campaign from the defensive to the offensive.

They can now use Republicans' main talking point, Biden’s age, against them since Trump is now the oldest candidate for president in U.S. history. She is also a much more fierce debater than Biden has been in recent years and I expect her to really give Trump a run for his money in the next presidential debate.

Her skills as a lawyer and attorney general will allow her to “prosecute” a compelling case against the recently convicted felon Trump. Overall, the atmosphere of the Democratic Party and this election cycle as a whole has now been re-invigorated, and I am ready to observe the battles to come.

I definitely agree that the shift in Democratic candidate shakes things up in this election. I know a lot of people (myself included) who were disappointed that this upcoming election was going to be essentially a "rematch" from 2020. Now, there's a difference in candidates, and it feels like a lot of people are becoming re-interested in politics. It's great to see.
