The abortion industry has been a subject of much contention within America. Over the years, as the rate of abortions has risen since 1916, when the first Planned Parenthood birth control clinic was introduced, the numbers have gone up in recent years. 

According to PBS, there were more than 930,000 abortions in the U.S. in 2020, which was up from about 862,000 abortions in 2017. Between 2020 and 2023, the US abortion numbers rose to over 1 million, a 10% jump from 2020, making it the highest in a decade. 

In that time, more and more people have begun to question the institution’s morality. Some suggest that abortions are beneficial to women who want to end their unwanted pregnancies. Meanwhile, on the opposing side of the aisle, others argue that the unborn child is a living human who is endowed with the same rights to life as any other person. But now a new question is being posed: Is the modern abortion industry a form of eugenics? 

Some may have heard the name Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood. Something of note about Margaret is that she was extremely and publicly racist, and a strong proponent of eugenics for what she deemed as undesirable groups. She strongly supported the ideas presented by the American Eugenics Society in 1972, which stated:

“Improving the genetic composition of humans through controlled reproduction of different races and classes.” 

In a 1923 New York Times interview, Margaret spoke on the subject, stating:

“It means the release and cultivation of the better racial elements in our society, and the gradual suppression, elimination, and eventual extirpation or defective stocks – those human weeds which threaten the blooming of the finest flowers of American civilization.”

Additionally, Margaret launched the Negro Project, an initiative designed to limit the black race by promoting abortions for black women in the South. Once, she even shared her vision for a preferred race at a women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan.

It is even apparent and arguable that the way Planned Parenthood is run today still follows Margaret’s racist ideologies. The majority of Planned Parenthood buildings are located primarily in poor and black-populated neighbourhoods. In New York City, more black babies are killed in the womb than are born. More than 20 million black babies have been aborted since the 1973 Roe v. Wade U.S. The Supreme Court decision legalised abortion in our country. Additionally, in 2019, 38.4% of all reported abortions in the US were performed on black women, which is a jarring statistic considering about 13.4% of the total population in America is black. 

According to statistics, each year there are around 73 million induced abortions around the world. This corresponds to approximately 200,000 abortions each day. And when the modern abortion industry is primarily targeting poor, black, and undesirable populations, this is a huge cause for concern. Margaret Sanger was not an advocate for feminism or human rights; she was a racist KKK member who sought to destroy an entire population of people, and founded an organization that continues to carry out that legacy to this day.
