I am still incredibly confused as to why Trump is so intent on acquiring Greenland for American interests. He has even gone so far as to joke that it could become the 51st state, and has suggested that anything short of U.S. control of Greenland is ‘unacceptable’. Yet Greenland’s prime minister has clearly stated, “We choose Denmark,” leaving little room for negotiation. America didn’t move away from imperialism because we became too soft; we did so because it was both a bad look for our country and widely unwanted. Trump already has Venezuela to “govern” and is flirting with intervention in Cuba and Iran, so why has his foreign policy suddenly become so hands-on? With conflict over ICE in our own streets, the President has far more pressing issues to address, which makes this Greenland nonsense seem like a political deflection.
