Army veteran Kerry Sheron has died at the age of 69 after being brutally attacked outside his Trump-themed house. Sheron was hospitalized and suffered major injuries after being beaten outside his home near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street on May 20th. He died on Sunday night after remaining in critical condition for several days. Sheron was killed by the 32-year-old man, Thomas Caleb Butler, who has been charged with attempted murder, elder abuse, making criminal threats, and battery. Despite pleading not guilty to attempted murder, security footage of the attack shows Sheron standing in his front yard when the suspect approached and attacked him, then fled on foot before officers arrived. The altercation was allegedly due to Butler not liking Sheron’s “MAGA decor.” For that reason, it seems reasonable to assume that this killing was a hate crime and should be treated as such. It is absolutely unacceptable to commit any form of violence against a person simply on the basis of disagreeing with their ideological beliefs. Butler currently faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The public can only hope for swift justice against this heinous attack.
