The world is celebrating World Environment Day and leaders across countries are sharing photos on social media of planting trees for future generations.
But no one wants to talk about the cost the planet is paying for the AI boom. Data centers are devastating the earth. A medium-sized data center consumes 110 billion gallons of water every year just for cooling. It also pollutes water sources and drives up water bills. China has even built an underwater data center. Singapore, which once halted new data centers, has restarted them, claiming sustainability is maintained.
But the question remains: will humanity and technology survive if we push the planet beyond its limits?
