Adios Maduro

With yesterday morning’s news that President Maduro has been deposed comes mixed feelings but joy for the Venezuelan people. While it is good that the world has one less dictator in it, I question the overstep of international and domestic law to do so. One way or another, America is a symbol for the world, and breaking laws when it sees fit sends the wrong message to our allies and our enemies. In the eyes of Putin or Jinping, how is this different from invading Ukraine or Taiwan? Trump has marketed this move as a step towards fighting the war on drugs, when in reality it has very little to do with the drug trade, and sets a precedent to do so for the same reason in other countries, maybe even Mexico. While we rejoice for the Venezuelans, let’s be more skeptical of military actions such as these and their broader implications.
