The housing crisis keeps many young Americans up at night. Trump’s recent executive order claims to help Americans rest easier by excluding corporate interests from the housing market. But with a problem as complex as the housing crisis, will this be enough to solve the problem?  And what is its root cause? Corporations buying up all the houses as Trump suggests? Lack of construction worsened by COVID-era supply shortages? Or maybe it’s the baby boomers driving up real estate costs? Let’s break it down. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce states that “The housing crisis stems from a fundamental issue: the construction…

It’s been a busy few weeks for the state department. Maduro has been captured. Protests in Tehran signal the current Iranian regime is coming to an end. Cuba is now in crisis after being denied access to Venezuelan oil. And in the midst of all these serious international issues, the President seems to have created another. Seemingly out of the blue, Trump has insisted that it’s “unacceptable”  for the U.S. to not control Greenland, citing the need to secure the country’s supply of rare earths and interests of China and Russia in the region.  Greenland is a Danish autonomous province…

I am still incredibly confused as to why Trump is so intent on acquiring Greenland for American interests. He has even gone so far as to joke that it could become the 51st state, and has suggested that anything short of U.S. control of Greenland is ‘unacceptable’. Yet Greenland’s prime minister has clearly stated, “We choose Denmark,” leaving little room for negotiation. America didn’t move away from imperialism because we became too soft; we did so because it was both a bad look for our country and widely unwanted. Trump already has Venezuela to “govern” and is flirting with intervention…

9:30 am Wednesday, January 7th, a Honda Pilot, surrounded by ICE agents, attempted to flee as an agent approached, resulting in the agent firing at least two shots (later determined to be 3) at the driver, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. The driver, now identified as Renee Nicole Good, 37 year old mother of three, was alone in the car and received CPR at the scene, but died at the hospital of a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting comes as President Trump sent 2,000 ICE agents to Minnesota, what some in his administration called “the largest…

With yesterday morning’s news that President Maduro has been deposed comes mixed feelings but joy for the Venezuelan people. While it is good that the world has one less dictator in it, I question the overstep of international and domestic law to do so. One way or another, America is a symbol for the world, and breaking laws when it sees fit sends the wrong message to our allies and our enemies. In the eyes of Putin or Jinping, how is this different from invading Ukraine or Taiwan? Trump has marketed this move as a step towards fighting the war…

Controversial rapper Drake has recently been named in a lawsuit after allegedly using a third-party website to inflate music streams. An artist in decline looking to pad his numbers is not surprising, and often not particularly criminal; however, hiding the money he was spending from the U.S. government is. Using an online gambling site that he is partnered with, Stake.us, the lawsuit claims, Drake and two accomplices took advantage of “an unlimited and wholly unregulated money transmitter that appears to exist outside the oversight of any financial regulator.” This case represents the growing grey area the legalization of online gambling…

While it might not be a win for Trump, this decision is a win for the American people. The President’s attempt to force the National Guard into a policing role does nothing to quell accusations of authoritarian abuse of power from the left.  As much as the federal government might disagree with how Chicago or any other city deals with crime, it is up to the elected officials of that city to sort out their problems. The system that many Americans have complained is failing after the appointment of conservative judges to the court, seems to be working after all.

Christmas shopping always puts a financial strain on Americans, but with Trump’s tariffs in effect for almost a year and inflation on the rise, this holiday season will hurt more than most. Economic confidence is at a 17-month low according to Gallop. For a president who won on promises to improve America’s finances, this is on track to be a major blow not just to our pocketbooks but to the president as well. Let’s start with the good news. Trump’s tariffs have not had as detrimental an impact on the economy as was thought when they were rolled out. In…

As a tentative peace deal has gone into effect in Gaza, President Trump seems intent on delivering on his other campaign promise of bringing an end to the war in Ukraine. However, peace seems an unlikely outcome with Ukraine facing a significant corruption scandal and Russia remaining inflexible in negotiations. Trump has attempted to leverage past American aid and his relationship with Vladimir Putin to bring both sides to the table, yet further European support for Ukraine, as well as more effective Russia recruitment, has assured both sides that they can sustain further conflict. Adding up these factors we can…

With the government shutdown ending recently, two national guard troops shot in D.C., and the Thanksgiving Holiday, you would not be blamed for missing the headline: Trump says US will soon take action against Venezuelan drug traffickers on land. After all, our President says many things and Americans only have so much time. However, this is a serious threat that, if acted upon, would draw the U.S. into a War with Venezuela. The administration has loosely veiled its military buildup in the region under the guise of combating drug smuggling by the Cartel de Los Soles. Designated as a terrorist…
