A few weeks ago, Arab countries were afraid that President Donald Trump would look for an easy way out of the Iran War. On Wednesday, President Trump made a speech that clarified the case for the Iran War and also praised Gulf allies for their help. Trump said that the bombings on Iran would continue, a relief to these allies, which have endured so much Iranian hostility. Now, as Iran tries to implement a formal toll booth upon the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf countries are getting annoyed—and perhaps even ready to join the fight, as the United Arab Emirates is contemplating joining in offensive operations. Outside the Arab world, European and Asian countries are experiencing the pains of Iran’s hostage tactics and are mulling over options to work together to open the strait.

Now is the time for America—and the world—to finish the job. Trump needs to stop being a bully to America’s allies. But Europe and Asia also need to recognize the importance of defeating a hostile power that is always willing to threaten the world with both missiles and economic blackmail. Arab nations should recognize that leaving a threatening neighbor will be a long-lasting impediment to their safety. A renewed, peaceful Iran is not only a moral good for the Iranian people but also a practically beneficial option for everyone.
