Who is Hated Most on the Internet?

A viral story from a few years ago is recirculating online and drumming up conversation. In 2021, Facebook created a “race blind” algorithm to determine which group  was the victim of the most online “hate speech,” as well as to reveal biases. The algorithm seemed to backfire after determining that 90% of hate speech was directed towards men and white people, who are often socially conditioned to believe that they are the ones mainly perpetuating hatred online. After Facebook was seemingly dissatisfied with the results, they switched the algorithm to be more sensitive to women, ethnic minorities and LGBTQ people, ignoring and negating the study’s actual results. Many are bringing this story back into public discussion as anti-white discrimination and racism have caused more controversy in recent years, leaving many increasingly disgruntled and frustrated.
