The Wall Street Journal recently published an article detailing a look at President Donald Trump in the midst of the Iran war. It is an interesting piece—for once, it doesn’t ask about what Trump is doing. Instead, it asks: How is Trump doing?
Not so well, apparently. He is going through a lot: screaming at aides, sending impulsive social media posts at 2 a.m. in the morning, agonizing over the possibility of sending U.S. soldiers to die and dealing with the disappointment of a war dragging on longer than expected. It offers a raw, human look at the presidency. You make plans, trust officials to enact them, get surprised by setbacks, deal with the public backlash and spiral into a constant state of managed chaos. I may not like President Trump all the time, but it is hard not to feel some sympathy for him.
Apparently, Trump has been caught sleeping during cabinet meetings or trying to steer conversations towards other topics. As a college student, I cannot blame him—I do the same exact things when I’m stressed. But, President Trump opened the can of worms that is Iran and decided that he was going to deal with that regime once and for all; he must deal with the struggle that comes with it. My advice? Get some sleep, President Trump. I’ve learned that it never helps being on social media at 2 a.m. in the morning. Having a healthy sleep schedule may result in a clearer head.
