I have been interested in politics ever since the 2016 election, and have always dreamed of becoming a writer and debator!

In the wake of rising fuel prices caused by Trump’s war with Iran, massive protests broke out led by farmers in Ireland. Long convoys of trucks and tractors have blocked streets, ports, and oil refineries across the island in response to carbon and fuel taxes. These protests have since been calmed by economic relief packages including reduction of said taxes. Nevertheless, they reflect an increasingly global opposition to the war on farmers against elitist tyranny. Farmer protests conducted in similar ways have occurred all across Europe, in the Netherlands, France, and Germany, against other authoritarian measures in recent years. Particularly,…

The Earth has existed for approximately 4.5 billion years, enduring countless unimaginable catastrophes. Erratic climate events, such as tropical storms and global floods, have occurred since liquid water first appeared on the planet. Wildfires have been a natural occurrence for hundreds of millions of years, long before the rise of Homo sapiens. Geologically, processes like plate tectonics, continental drift, and supervolcano eruptions have destroyed numerous ecosystems and significantly reduced biodiversity. The effects of Ice Ages seem minor when compared to the Snowball Earth phases, during which even the tropics were blanketed in ice, rendering most of the surface too cold…

We are often told that European colonialism was uniquely barbaric and oppressive. Without a doubt, many atrocities against native Africans and Indians occurred at the hands of British, French, and Belgian overlords in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After the Second World War, European empires quickly lost most of their overseas colonies. But has this brought them peace and prosperity? Hindus and Muslims lived in peace for nearly 400 years under the British Raj in what is now India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Similarly, there were few tensions between Arabs and Jews in the British Mandatory Rule over what…

Nowhere in our constitution is there a limit to how large the House of Representatives can be. But the 1929 Reapportionment Act arbitrarily limits it to the familiar 435. Before then, the size of the chamber grew each decade, meaning that the number of constituents per representative grew slower instead. In fact, the United States capitol building even expanded to accommodate the new representatives multiple times. Since 1929, however, the average electorate size for each representative has almost tripled. As a result, the house continues to become less representative of American voters as a whole, as more constituents compete to…

The United States of America’s defense spending has been by far the largest in the world for decades. It has surpassed the combined total of many other regional powers, such as China and Russia, and even adjusted for population and GDP size, it regularly ranks near the top of the list. For the first time in America’s history, it appears that its military budget may exceed 1 trillion dollars. President Trump’s most recent proposal calls for an increase of hundreds of billions in the Pentagon’s budget to roughly 1.5 trillion dollars, by far the highest in American history. This comes…

This past weekend, hundreds of “No Kings” rallies were held nationwide to protest the Trump administration’s alleged crackdown on civil liberties and democracy. Ironically, one of the rallies took place outside the NIH headquarters, where protesters against Trump’s cuts to medical research chanted, “No Kings, just vaccines!” The majority of these protesters are staunch supporters of the Democratic Party. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they advocated for mandates that forced millions of Americans to receive a flawed vaccine in order to work, study, and travel. Notably, excess mortality among young adults has reached an all-time high since 2021. Just five years…

Supporters of the Democratic party are constantly calling for updates to our constitution, including abolishing the Electoral College, adding the Equal Rights Amendment, and especially reconsidering the Second Amendment. They argue that because the constitution is such an old document, the ideas written in it decades or centuries ago are not suited for our modern world due to changes in technology, cultural shifts, and national interests. Perhaps no portion of the law of the land fits that description as well as the Fourteenth Amendment. Currently the Supreme Court is evaluating whether the amendment’s “Citizenship Clause” nullifies Trump’s executive order to…

American Healthcare is Far From Free-Market Capitalism It’s no secret that the American Healthcare System is in dire need of reform. Especially in terms of healthcare costs, it stands out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the world. Adjusted for population and GDP, the United States spends far more than any other country in this sector. This has remained true during and after major health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, despite America’s population being far from the most elderly. Americans, on average, pay many times more for including appendectomies, cesarean sections, and coronary surgeries than people…
